Are dofollow forum links still a thing—and are they worth chasing?
I keep hearing people talk about “finding dofollow forum links,” but when I actually look around, most forums label outbound links as nofollow/UGC, block links for new users, or remove anything that looks promotional.

They do exist, but they’re much less common in well-moderated communities—and for understandable reasons. Forums get hammered by automated spam, so “nofollow/UGC by default” is a normal defensive setting. When you do find dofollow forum links, it’s often because the forum is lightly moderated, misconfigured, or not very active—which isn’t always a good tradeoff. I’d treat dofollow as a “nice if it happens” outcome, not the main target.
